King’s Wood residency 2011

In 2011 I spent nine weeks in King’s Wood, on the Kent Downs, as artist in residence with Stour Valley Arts. The experience of being an artist in an English working wood was very rich and rewarding. I made a small body of work using the abundant spent bluebell stems scattered under the trees, and they accompanied my fascination with the very numerous dens built and rebuilt over weekends and school holidays by children and their families who visited the Wood.

The project was supported by an Artsource, WA “go anywhere grant” and in kind support from STA. All photos of the dens and the Make Believe works by Nigel Green. A publication and exhibition of the works and the den photographs is planned for 2013 in Kent.
